Sadly, the weather did not cooperate as it was pouring rain all day. I won't complain too much because we badly need the moisture, but it did put a damper on our adventures. Three of my models and I braved the weather and headed to two locations downtown for photos. I'll share them bit by bit so you can see each outfit.
First, Justine as The Adventuress, freshly back from safari!
Taking a break from the current project to let you know that Dreams of Empires is now on Facebook. Check it out here!
I hope to have a custom website up sometime in April so stay tuned for further developments! At that time I'll have items available for purchase or will do custom orders.
Oh, and photos soon of the latest outfit.Judy Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01121300109427407095noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037402645568930538.post-49699113962469595902013-02-22T10:37:00.000-08:002013-02-22T10:37:00.423-08:00Nearly finishedI've been working on a new jacket pattern. The prototype is nearly done. I like it so much I may be wearing this to work.
What do you think? It is made of a washable, tooled suedecloth.
It still looks a bit rough as it needs hemmed and a final pressing. And it fits better on me than it does on the dress form (since the form is currently sized for one of my models).Judy Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01121300109427407095noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037402645568930538.post-7722586278752790152013-02-05T18:40:00.001-08:002013-02-05T18:40:29.432-08:00Ladies vestI whipped up this little gem this weekend (after recovering from the flu and finishing the last jacket). It is destined for Justine to coordinate with her walking skirt.
The collar and pocket welts are the same fabric as her skirt and the patterned fabric is, amazingly enough, some cotton I had in my quilting stash. Not bad for a day's work. But I do need to get a better photo.Judy Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01121300109427407095noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037402645568930538.post-48396980384435569512013-02-02T12:11:00.001-08:002013-02-02T12:11:21.035-08:00For the military gentleman

My darling husband. So accommodating even though I had him model this while still wearing his jammies. 15 button lined jacket. I had originally planned for 22 buttons but the layout looked odd on the short jacket. But this leaves plenty of room for insignia and medals for the war hero.Judy Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01121300109427407095noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037402645568930538.post-67326727815369480392013-01-21T16:29:00.000-08:002013-01-21T16:29:15.031-08:00Another walking skirt with jacketI love three day weekends. Even though I had plenty of other things to do (including being out of town all Sunday afternoon and evening) I was able to complete another outfit. This one is a walking skirt that has a bit of a train to it and a matching bolero/jacket.
What do you think?

It is a lovely purple with black lining and trim on the jacket.
I'm rather pleased with it.

It is a rusty-red shantung skirt with ruffle, overskirt and flounces on the side. The bustle is detachable and the bustle and flounces have black contrasting lining.
This is my favorite of the few photos we took. Too bad the flash didn't go off. I'll be sure to get better photos when it isn't dark and 20 degrees outside. I'll also need to get some from the back so you can see the bustle better.Judy Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01121300109427407095noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037402645568930538.post-25989875648045778152013-01-05T14:23:00.002-08:002013-01-05T14:23:46.897-08:00The Models have TeaMy darling daughter has collected a few of her friends who are willing to serve as models for me. So, today, most of them converged on our home for tea. My ulterior motive was to get their measurements to make sure I was making things that would fit. They were also able to look through patterns and tell me what kind of looks they would like to model.
I've only got the buttons to put on so I'll be able to post photos soon. Tomorrow I'll be cutting out a jacket that I'm pretty excited to try. And Santa brought me a dress form for Christmas so the design fun can really begin.

I've now got 5-6 people interested in helping with a photo shoot in March so I'll need to have plenty of finished items ready for them. I do hope to have an actual business up and running in a few more months. Stay tuned... things are about to get much more busy and interesting around here.Judy Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01121300109427407095noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037402645568930538.post-52118173952329572952012-12-10T13:42:00.003-08:002012-12-10T13:42:44.822-08:00Start to finishStarted and finished another sewing project today. I love having days off my paying job! Today's project was a gift for my oldest son- the model of yesterday. Nothing too artsy- but a soft fleece shirt in tie dyed blue.

Not the best photo but I don't have the best phone and the good camera is upstairs.
Still, not a bad piece of work for the day. The partial zipper was interesting to put in. I modified the pattern instructions because the way they told you to do it was kind of bizarre. My way worked quite well and eliminated lots of hand work.
Now the only holiday project I've still got is finishing the binding on a quilt. And I've still got a couple of weeks to go!Judy Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01121300109427407095noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037402645568930538.post-88498695410720175632012-12-09T14:26:00.000-08:002012-12-09T14:26:11.454-08:00Steampunk photo shootI finished a brocade vest for my youngest son for Christmas but I couldn't wait to share it. So, I got his older brother to model for me and we had a bit of a Steampunk photo shoot. I guess it he's going to be doing more modeling for me he'll have to get used to it!
Life and garden have gotten in the way of sewing and quilting. But, yesterday was a rainy day and today it was pea-soup fog all morning, so I stayed inside and worked on Justine's quilt.
(thanks to I15 for holding it up for photos)

I got the top finished last weekend when V's Mom was here. And this weekend I got it sandwiched together with it's batting and backing. It's kind of hard to see, but in the outer border the pattern has lots of little clock faces in it. Justine picked it out. It wasn't quite the color I wanted but it is what she chose.
Today I started quilting.

I'm really loving the quilting lines on the balloon. I put extra batting in the balloon and the sail to give it a 3-D effect. Hopefully I'll have time to work on it again soon. I was really hoping to be able to use my new, old treadle machine but I'm having trouble finding needles for it. More about that another time.Judy Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01121300109427407095noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037402645568930538.post-57061786279250483232012-04-29T16:00:00.000-07:002012-04-30T19:14:56.505-07:00Awesomeness!!Since it was a cold, rainy day here, I couldn't work outside and it was too cold and damp to be able to open the windows to paint. So, what's a girl to do? Quilt of course! Having nearly finished my last project, I dove into the center panel for Justine's Steampunk quilt that I had done the sketch of earlier. It went together faster than I had hoped and I'm really liking the way it has turned out.
The basic applique for the Steampunk Airship Quilt #1. The block is 20 x 25 inches so it's pretty big.
I'm pleased with the detail stitching I've been able to get on the ship. Those decorative stitches have come in handy.
All of the rope work on the balloon and the sail will come when I quilt it. I've still got a couple of flags to add on the back of the ship and the top of the balloon.
I'm thinking this may be a prototype for something I may want to sell someday. What do you think? I haven't seen anything like it in a search.Judy Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01121300109427407095noreply@blogger.com2
